In 2023, SIFMA took a significant step forward by expanding its offerings, bringing in a wider array of performances from across Asia and beyond. The event introduced new categories such as digital art and multimedia performances, blending traditional artistry with modern technology. With enhanced participation from international artists, SIFMA 2023 showcased Sarawak’s growing prominence on the global cultural stage. The festival also focused on community engagement, with outreach programs and performances held in schools and local communities, further solidifying its role as a major cultural event in the region.
2022
SIFMA 2022 marked a return to in-person performances after the challenges of the pandemic. The festival embraced a hybrid format, combining live performances with virtual elements to maintain its international reach. Held at iconic venues in Kuching, the event featured a mix of local talent and international artists, continuing SIFMA’s tradition of cultural exchange and artistic collaboration. The program included diverse musical performances, dance acts, and interactive workshops, offering participants a platform to share their creative talents with both physical and online audiences.
2021
The second SIFMA was a hybrid event, due to the pandemic. The festival was performed live at the State Legislative Assembly and live-streamed on the SIFMA official website and Facebook page and at different locations throughout Malaysia, including The Junk, Damai Beach Resort, Waterfront Hotel, Plaza Merdeka, Grand Margherita Hotel, Commons, Biddy’s Cafe, UCSI Hotel, TK Agency, Megalanes Sarawak, Thumbs, AEON Mall, Grandma Bak Kut Teh and La Promenade Mall in Kuching, Coco Cabana in Miri, Outright Coffee in Sibu and Eastin Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The watch parties enable audiences to enjoy SIFMA despite Covid-19 restrictions, with family, friends and plenty of food!
SIFMA 2.0 also introduced something new: a forum called ‘Let’s Talk’, which features inspirational stories and advice from professionals and enthusiasts within the creative community.
